NH Woman Accused of Stabbing Son's Pet Snake

A New Hampshire woman was arrested on an animal cruelty charge after she allegedly stabbed her son’s pet snake.

Police in Derry said they learned about the injured animal after they responded to a call of a disturbance at an apartment located at 17 Fairway Drive. Sharon Magya, 54, was accused of stabbing her adult son’s small ball python with a knife while it was inside its glass tank.

The stabbing allegedly happened during an argument a few days prior to police officers’ response.

Officials said they were unable to locate the pet since it fled and hid somewhere in the apartment after the stabbing. It was found a few days later when officers returned to the home to see it.

The snake was seen with a half-inch wound on its body that police said was "mostly healed."

Officials obtained a warrant for Magya’s arrest and charged her with animal cruelty. She was released on personal recognizance bail.
