Woman Shaves Head for Cancer Awareness

The UMass Memorial Medical Center Cancer Walk is September 28

Charity Grzelecki's haircut is a reflection of her dedication to raising awareness, as well as money for cancer.

So far, Grzelecki has raised more than $1,500 by promising to shave her head if $1000 was donated. She says her motivation comes from people she has known with cancer, like her grandmother.

The University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center will host its 16th annual cancer walk on Sunday, September 28. Walk organizers say every dollar will help with their goal of raising more than $575,000.

Beth Whitney is the walk manager; says Grzelecki's actions inspire others to get involved.

100 percent of the fundraising dollars go directly to the UMass Memorial Medical Center.
