An area of high pressure, or fair weather, is sprawled across the Eastern United States today, delivering sunshine and pleasant temperatures near seasonable values, with chilly morning 20s for some spots rebounding to a relatively pleasant 55 to 60 degrees this afternoon.
A southwest wind will increase a bit today...though be far less active than yesterday's wind...and will keep overnight temperatures around 40 degrees.

By Thursday, the southwest wind will be gusting to 45 mph at times, and this will carry enough warmth northward into New England to boost high temperatures 65 to 70 degrees, even through increasing clouds region-wide with perhaps a shower at the Canadian border.
By Friday, a slow-moving cold front enters New England and will carry showers, periodic rain, and embedded thunder with it.

Though temperatures will once again reach the 60s, that won't stop the rain from falling heavily in some passing downpours before cooler air starts moving in for the weekend. Saturday brings the first installment of cooler air - 50s and fair - ahead of a strong energetic disturbance with rain and snow showers Saturday night that ushers in downright chilly air Sunday and Monday.
