1 Dead, 2 Others Injured in Hampton Crash

State police are investigating fatal crash that occurred in Hampton Thursday afternoon.

Police say they responded to the intersection of Route 6 and Route 97 around 3:50 p.m. Investigation suggests that a 2012 Ford Focus, driven by Charles Thurlow, 74, of Bingham Road in Canterbury had been traveling south down Route 97 and was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Route 6. Matilda Thurlow, 74, of the same address was a passenger in the vehicle.

Police say it appears the Focus entered Route 6 in the path of a 2005 Volkswagen Passat, operated by Michael Kozyra, 40, of Mansfield. The Passat was unable to stop and collided with the driver-side door of the Focus.

The occupants of both vehicles were transported by ambulance to Windham Hospital for treatment.. Charles Thurlow was then airlifted by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital for further treatment of his injuries. He passed away at Hartford Hopsital.

Kozyra and Matilda Thurlow suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate this accident. Anyone with information should contact Trooper Pritchard at Troop-D at (860) 779-4900.
