Bombings Kill 14, Hurt Dozens at Churches in Pakistan

Bombs exploded outside two churches during Sunday services in the mostly Christian suburb of Lahore, Pakistan, killing 14 people and wounding nearly 80, Reuters reported. Police said the blasts, which went off minutes apart, seemed to target a Catholic church and a Protestant church. Lives were likely spared in the second attack thanks to the quick actions of a security guard, who apparently stopped a suicide bomber from entering the church, a witness told Reuters. The guard died in the attack, said the witness, who also said it wasn’t clear if the first blast was a suicide bomber. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a Taliban splinter group, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
