Son Killed, Father Injured in Motorcycle Crash at Devil's Hopyard

Another Meriden man was badly injured.

A 22-year-old Meriden man was killed and his 47-year-old father was badly injured when their motorcycles crashed in Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Stephen Palermo, 22, and Jorge Palermo, 47, were negotiating a series of curves on Hopyard Road when they crashed just before 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

Stephen Palermo lost control of his bike, hit a large object on the shoulder of the road and died, according to state police.

Jorge Palermo also lost control of his bike, went off the road and hit an object, according to state police, who said he has serious injuries. LifeStar responded and transported him from the scene.

An investigation is underway.
