29-Year-Old Charged for Assault, Robbery in Randolph

According to police, Demetrius James, 29, of Randolph, is charged with assault and battery of a person over 65 and unarmed robbery.

A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing an elderly man in Randolph.

According to police, Demetrius James, 29, of Randolph, is charged with assault and battery of a person over 65 and unarmed robbery.

Police say they received a report from an Uber driver on North Street who stated she observed an elderly man being assaulted by another man around 10:40 a.m. Sunday.

The driver provided a description of the suspect and officers began to search the area, police said.

When police arrived on scene, they found a 74-year-old Randolph man who was suffering from injuries to his face. He reported be was robbed of his wallet and keys.

The victim was transported via ambulance to an area hospital, police said. His condition is unknown at this time.

According to police, a resident who heard the description of the suspect on the scanner called police and reported they saw someone matching the description running through their backyard.

Police responded to the area and set up a perimeter. They were able to locate James near the Lindwood Cemetery on North Street, less than a quarter mile away from where the altercation took place.

James was arrested following an on scene investigation, police said.

He was transported to Randolph Police Department where he is being held on a $5,000 cash bail. It is unclear whether James has an attorney.
