5 Rescued Off Massachusetts Coast When Boat Takes on Water

Five people were rescued early Sunday morning after their boat began taking on water off the coast of Massachusetts.

The Wareham Harbormaster reported being notified at 5:40 a.m. With the assistance of other agencies, including the Buzzards Bay Marine Task Force, the vessel was located in a shallow and rocky area northeast of Little Bird Island about an hour later.

The harbormaster said all five people, who were wearing life jackets, were then taken off the partially submerged vessel and transported to Tempest Knob.

The victims were cold, but not hurt.

According to the harbormaster, the vessel was expected to be brought back to shore later in the day and Massachusetts Environmental Police would be investigating the incident.
