New Haven Woman Suffers Serious Burns in Early Morning House Fire

A woman was seriously burned and five other people suffered smoke inhalation during a fire on Frederick Street in New Haven early Saturday morning.

The call came in just before 4 a.m. Firefighters said two out of twenty apartments at 111 Frederick Street were involved with fire on the first and second floor and through the roof. The fire was contained to the end units and suffered severe damage.

Chiefs John Alston and Bruce Galaski said four people were inside and a 61-year-old female was transported to Bridgeport hospital with severe burns.

Two adults and three children were also transported for smoke inhalation but they are expected to be released shortly.

The Red Cross is on their way and power is working to be restored to the complex.

A total of nine people have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
