911 Call Reveals New Details About Search for Accused Cop Killer

A 911 call transcript indicates a four-day manhunt for an accused cop killer in Maine started with a clerk calling a dispatcher to report an armed robbery - of cigarettes and a bottle of water.

The Associated Press obtained the transcript through a public records request released Wednesday.

John Williams is charged with killing 61-year-old Somerset County Cpl. Eugene Cole on April 25 in Norridgewock. Prosecutors are seeking a life prison sentence.

An affidavit says after killing Cole, Williams stole the deputy's pickup and robbed a convenience store before abandoning the truck.

A cashier told 911 that Williams took an Old Gold cigarette pack and displayed a firearm.

The cashier said she believed Williams fled in the same sheriff's truck that Cole had just filled up at the Cumberland Farms store.
