Beloved Mayor's Dog Dies After Cross-Country Trip

Mura gained international attention when her human, Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux, took her on the cross-country trip last year

A Massachusetts mayor's dog that became known for her cross-country journey after a cancer diagnosis has died.

The Sun Chronicle reports Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux announced on Facebook Mura the Japanese wolf dog died Saturday afternoon.

Mura's death prompted an outpouring of sympathy online, with more than 1,600 users posting messages of condolences.

Heroux and Mura gained international attention when he took her on the cross-country trip last year.

The pair visited places such as Niagara Falls, Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park.

Heroux says Mura was the "first dog of Attleboro," and she "made so many people happy."
