The Democratic National Committee is launching a new field program to strengthen its presence beyond typical battleground states.
Starting in Georgia, Utah and Arizona, the DNC's field program will set up new teams of volunteers and organizers in states that are generally perceived as too red or too blue to garner much attention during election cycles, according to NBC News.
The new teams — which the DNC calls Victory Leadership Councils — will work directly with party headquarters in Washington, D.C., with a team led by former Hillary Clinton campaign staffer Adam Parkhomenko.
The DNC said the program is meant to last beyond November's election. In the shorter-term, though, the group hopes that intensifying focus on new, non-battleground states will weaken Trump's hold on Republicans there.
