Family of ‘Affluenza' Teen's Victim ‘Furious' He's on the Run

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Couch's capture

While the nationwide search for "affluenza teen" Ethan Couch continues, the family of one of his victims is expressing outrage that he has failed to fulfill his probation requirements and is on the run.

Sergio Molina was paralyzed in the 2013 drunken driving wreck that killed four.

"The family is furious," Molina family attorney Bill Berenson said. "Couch paralyzed their son, got away with four murders. He must be caught and punished."

In June 2013 at age 16, Couch was driving drunk and speeding on a dark, two-lane road south of Fort Worth, Texas, when he crashed into a disabled SUV, killing four people.

Among the injured were some of the seven teens in Couch's pickup, including Molina. Molina was left with a serious brain injury and is unable to walk or talk; he can only communicate by blinking.

Couch pleaded guilty to four counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury.

During sentencing, a defense expert argued Couch's wealthy parents coddled him, causing him to suffer from a condition dubbed "affluenza," a diagnosis not recognized by the American Psychiatric Association. In December 2013, a juvenile court judge sentenced Couch to 10 years' probation and a stint in rehab.

Couch's family reached a more than $2 million settlement with Molina's family in May 2014.

Couch, now 18, vanished after failing to show up for a scheduled meeting with a probation officer on December 10. His mother, 48-year-old Tonya Couch, is also missing, and authorities suspect they may be together.

Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said last week that he suspects Couch fled in the days after a video came to light that appears to show people playing drinking games at a party. One of those people may be Crouch – investigators had hoped to ask him about the video.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Couch's capture.
