Man Killed While Protecting Kids: Police

A man trying to help children in Miami's Allapattah neighborhood was shot to death Thursday evening, police said.

Several people were in front of an apartment building when a yellow Ford Mustang drove erratically around the group, which included children who were playing, according to Miami police. The victim, Bradley Holt, 24, shouted at the people in the car to try to stop in an effort to protect the kids.

Miami Police said someone inside the car fired a shot at the man which hit him in the head. None of the children were injured in the shooting on the 3200 block of Northwest 11th Court.

"It's a sad story because obviously what this good Samaritan was doing was trying to protect the safety of the children that were playing outside their home," said Kenia Reyes of Miami police.

A neighbor's 6-year-old son was one of the children Holt was trying to protect.

"I saw a yellow car. It was driving crazy," 6-year-old Ellis Knox said. "We all ran in the house. We heard gunshots."

The boy's father, also named Ellis Knox, said the driver could have hurt any one of those kids on the road. He said Flowers was "cool" and that he watched out the kids often.

"Person gone too soon over something not necessary," Knox said.

Miami Fire Rescue took Holt to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, but he died shortly after getting to the hospital.

Police have found the yellow Ford Mustang that was wanted in this investigation.
