High-Speed Chase Ends in Wild Crash

Video of the chase captured the SUV crashing into a power pole when Carter attempted to make a hard right turn

A high-speed police chase with a murder suspect ended Wednesday afternoon in a crash in north Oklahoma City.

Officers dragged Christopher Lamont Carter, 23, out of the wrecked SUV by his hair and took him in to custody, Oklahoma City police said. Carter was wanted in connection to the shooting death of a 17-year-old man on May 17.

Police attempted to pull over Carter’s black SUV at about 2 p.m. Wednesday but he refused and a chase ensued. Officials said at one point he was driving over 80 miles per hour.

Video of the chase captured the SUV crashing into a power pole when Carter attempted to make a hard right turn. The SUV flipped over and Carter, appearing unharmed, opened the rear passenger door to escape, video shows.

He can been seen talking to someone on his cell phone while his hands are up in the air. With guns drawn, U.S. Marshals and Oklahoma City police approach pulled Carter out of the car by his hair.

Carter was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a murder complaint as well as charges from the pursuit.

Residents at the apartment complex where Jerome Garrett was killed expressed relief over Carter’s arrest and said his capture will make them feel safe, NBC affiliate KFOR reported.

"It's very rewarding for the detectives who have worked hard on this case, a little bit of closure for the victim’s family, which we always like to try to provide in a horrendous situation," said Lt. Michelle Henderson. "This ended well for everybody."

Police are still looking for a second suspect in connection with the murder.
