Philadelphia Officer Allegedly Punches Wife, Then Uses Patrol Car to Chase Her

A driver was critically injured in a crash allegedly resulting from a bizarre incident early Tuesday in West Philadelphia.

A 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia police department is accused of attacking his wife and then chasing her down in his marked patrol vehicle with the lights and siren activated, police said.

The incident began early Tuesday when 30-year-old  Antonio Mayhew allegedly punched his wife in the head while she was in driver's seat of her vehicle on 5200 block of Market Street in West Philadelphia.

When she fled in her car, police say, he allegedly pursued her in his police cruiser with the lights and siren activated. 

The wife crashed into another car at 61st and Walnut streets during the chase, police said. The driver of that car was critically injured.

Mayhew was on duty was on-duty at the time and not in his assigned patrol area, police said.

Mayhew was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, misapplication of entrusted property and several other misdemeanors.

He has been suspended from the department with intent to dismiss.
