After Mattapan Double Homicide, Community Leaders Call for End to Violence

Three people have been murdered in Boston within the month of April. No arrests have been made in any of the shootings, each of which took place in Mattapan.

A group of men who call themselves "20,000 Peacemakers" is looking to inspire men within their community, spreading messages of love and positivity to help reduce violence throughout Boston's urban neighborhoods.

Minister Randy Mohammed is among the groups leaders.

"We're calling on the men of our community to stand up and be promoters of peace and make our communities safe and decent places to live," he said.

Improving conditions in African-American communities is their mission, and talking to people one-on-one is the communication style they've chosen to help get it accomplished. Minister Charles Mohammed, another of the group's leaders, feels they're getting closer to getting their message across.

"We're right at the crest with the start of the peacemakers promoting love, promoting peace," he said. "It will be like a disease that will infect the rest of the community."
