Ariz. Gov. Jan Brewer Won't Seek Re-election

Arizona's Republican Gov. Jan Brewer announced on Wednesday that she is not running for re-election in 2014. Brewer's team had earlier argued the two consecutive term limit did not apply to her since she didn't serve a full term after replacing then-Gov. Janet Napolitano, who left the post to become President Barack Obama's Homeland Security secretary. But she faced a crowded field of other Republicans vying to succeed her. Brewer made national headlines recently when, under intense pressure from her state's U.S. senators and from top businesses, she vetoed a bill that would have let businesses refuse to serve gays and lesbians. On Wednesday, Sen. John McCain thanked Brewer for her service and hailed her as "a great champion for our state."
