Belichick: ‘We’ve Got a Lot of Work to Do’

The New England Patriots have a lot to work on after their shocking season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Bill Belichick said Friday.

"I think we've got a lot of work to do," Belichick said on a conference call with the media. "I don't think anything that we did really was good enough. I'm not really interested in living in the past in 2014, 2015, 2003, 2004, which constantly keeps coming up. I mean, everything's about some other year but this year and this team. I don't really think all that's relevant because we're talking about another team, but we've got a thousand questions about it every week."

"I'm really concerned about the 2017 team, what this team is, what this team needs to do. I'm not trying to live in the past like everybody else is."

Belichick said he did see some positive signs on Thursday night, mostly from young players like defensive linemen Cassius Marsh and Adam Butler. But overall, he said the team just gave up too many big plays.

"I'd say the biggest concern is doing a better job," he said, "We need to do a better job on everything. And it's everything, so that includes everybody - players, coaches, everybody, all of us."

"Again, it's not good enough. There's a lot of issues on several plays. So, like I said, we've got to coach better. We've got to play better. We just didn't do a good job at all."
