Slovenian skier Tina Maze and Switzerland’s Dominique Gisin tied for gold in the women’s downhill Wednesday in Sochi — the first time that Alpine skiing's marquee race produced two Olympic champions. Each skier notched a time of 1 minute, 41.57 seconds to share in the historic win.

Davis' shot at Olympic history ended Wednesday at Adler Arena when Stefan Groothuis won gold for the Netherlands in the 1,000 meters, ending the American's hopes of becoming the first male speedskater to win the same event at three straight Olympics.

After Davis completed the first full lap of the 2½-lap race, it was clear his reign was over. He crossed the line more than seventh-tenths of a second behind Groothuis' winning time of 1 minute, 8.39 seconds. Davis' shot at Olympic history ended Wednesday at Adler Arena when Stefan Groothuis won gold for the Netherlands in the 1,000 meters, ending the American's hopes of becoming the first male speedskater to win the same event at three straight Olympics.

Norway and China remained unbeaten and the U.S. finally picked up a win Wednesday in men's curling at the Sochi OIympics. Wearing flat caps, knee-length knickers and dark blue soccer socks, the stylish Norwegians beat Germany 8-5 for a third consecutive victory.
