A Boston firefighter allegedly called Massachusetts State Police troopers "Nazis" while being arrested for drunken driving Thursday night, just one day before he was scheduled to retire.
Sean Ingram, 64, of Quincy, is charged with second offense operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a collision causing property damage, assault with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle) and resisting arrest.
Ingram had been scheduled to retire at the end of the day on Friday, according to Boston fire officials.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said state police arrested Ingram around 10:30 p.m. on Gallivan Boulevard in Boston after he was allegedly involved in a collision, drove away, was pulled over, reversed his vehicle into a marked cruiser and then swore at troopers and called them "Nazis" and "Nazi scumbags" while failing field sobriety tests.
Ingram told state police that he had just come from the Boston Bruins game, and said he had only had two drinks at dinner before the game.
Ingram was arraigned Friday in Dorchester Municipal Court and bail was set at $500. He is scheduled to return to court on June 8.
"The Boston Fire Department takes these allegations very seriously," Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn said in a statement Friday. "We will monitor this situation as it is adjudicated through the court system and take the appropriate action if and when it is necessary."
