Boston Police Captain Put on Administrative Leave

Boston Police confirm Captain Haseeb Hosein is on administrative leave.

A celebrated captain with the Boston Police Department has been placed on administrative leave.

The department confirmed Monday that Captain Haseeb Hosein was on leave, but no further details were released.

When Hosein became a captain in 2014, he was the first Muslim to reach the rank.

The head of the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation said Monday night that the union was made aware Hosein had been placed on leave earlier in the day, but didn't have a reason.

Hosein oversaw Mattapan, where he was recognized last April for his hard work in the community.

According to city salary records, Hosein was once the city's highest paid employee — earning more than $366,000 in 2017.

Those same records show he earned just under $400,000 last year when factoring in overtime and paid detail work.

A woman who answered the door at Hosein's home told NBC10 Boston the police captain wasn't home. He couldn't be reached by phone.
