Boston Urges Peaceful Demonstrations Over Ferguson

The grand jury could issue its decision at any time on whether charges will be brought

Boston's police commissioner is urging the city's college students to act "responsibly and peacefully" if they participate in public demonstrations once a grand jury decides whether to bring charges in the police shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri.

In a message posted Thursday on the department's website, Commissioner William Evans says the country is anxiously awaiting the decision on whether a white officer will be charged in the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Evans asked that any public demonstrations in Boston be done "with respect to our neighbors and businesses."

The St. Louis County grand jury is expected to decide this month whether Officer Darren Wilson is charged with a crime for shooting Brown on Aug. 9.
