Boston Winter Canceled for City Hall Plaza's $60 Million Redesign

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s $60 million plan to redesign City Hall Plaza comes at the price of Boston Winter for the 2018 season.

"As we prepare to celebrate Boston City Hall’s 50th anniversary this summer, we are recommitting to our vision and moving forward with our plans to make City Hall the civic heart of our city," Walsh said in a statement.

The construction, which is slated to begin early 2019, will include improvements to the north side of the plaza in an effort to reopen public access. Such access has not been available for 17 years. The plaza will also upgrade its access to water, electricity and data lines to potentially expand future events.

Despite the closure of Boston Winter, The Patios, a patio area with a main pavilion, is expected to remain open through the fall.
