Boston's Energy Chief to Leave for a New Job in Private Sector

Boston's chief of energy and the environment has announced he is leaving City Hall.

The Boston Globe reports city officials confirmed Wednesday that Austin Blackmon is leaving for a job in the private sector near the San Francisco Bay area.

He will be working on product development and growth for a clean energy technology firm.

Blackmon oversaw the city's goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050, and he also helped in Boston's attempts to rejoin the Paris climate deal after President Donald Trump rejected it.

Blackmon will be replaced by Christopher Cook, who is the commissioner of the Boston Parks Department. Cook will also retain that role.

Cook says he is looking forward to building a "more sustainable and resilient future" for Boston's children.
