Boy Rescued After Falling off Rock in Gloucester

A 13-year-old boy was rescued Saturday after falling off a rock at Rafes Chasm in Glousceter, Massachusetts.

Gloucester Police and Fire departments arrived on scene when they received an emergency call for a person falling into the water.

The Gloucester boy was taking photos of the waves with friends when he fell off a rock and landed into the water. The boy was swept away 50 to 75 feet off shore when emergency personnel arrived. The U.S. Coast Guard were informed of the incident and launched a 47-foot lifeboat to search for him.

The teen remained in sight during the rescue until the U.S. Coast Guard pulled him from the water. The boy was transported to Beverly Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and is in good condition.

“Fortunately, as a result of the swift, seamless teamwork between the Gloucester Fire and Police Departments and the Coast Guard, this boy was rescued very quickly,” Fire Chief Eric Smith said. “Time is critical in an incident like this, and I’d like to thank all those who took part in today’s rescue.”
