Boy's Gesture Brings BSO Deputy to Tears at Dunkin' Donuts

A South Florida boy brought tears to the eyes of a sheriff's deputy when he treated the officer to a surprise breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts.

The Broward Sheriff's Office shared the story of Deputy Donnie Jackson and a thoughtful boy on its Facebook page this week.

In the post, Jackson explains how he walked into a Dunkin' Donuts before beginning his shift.

"As I enter, all eyes are fixed on me. I could only imagine what was going through the minds of the people inside the restaurant with all the negativity surrounding law enforcement officials."

Jackson said he placed his order of iced coffee with a Turbo shot and a sesame-seed bagel at the cash register and soon after, a little boy said, "I'm gonna pay for his."

Flattered, the deputy said he declined, but the boy's parents insisted.

We had to share this post from Deputy Jackson. With so much negative attention around law enforcement, we were so happy...

They told the deputy, as soon as he walked into the restaurant, their son insisted on buying his breakfast because he appreciates the "thankless job" that officers do. Little did the boy know, Jackson is something of a hero cop in the area. In 2003 he rescued two boys whose car had fallen into a canal, according to reports.

Jackson, who posed for a picture with the boy and his dad but didn't get their names, said he's looking to find contact information for the family. He left a copy of the picture at the Dunkin' Donuts with a note.

"It's a good thing I had on my Oakley's [sic] because I really teared up," Jackson said on Facebook. "I really appreciated this kind act by this kid and the fine qualities being instilled in him by his parents."
