Authorities Seek Suspect Who Set Fire to Brockton Mayor's SUV

Fire officials said the fire to the city-owned Ford Explorer was discovered Dec. 1

Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect responsible for setting fire to the vehicle belonging to Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter.

Fire officials said the fire to the city-owned Ford Explorer was discovered Dec. 1 outside Carpenter's home on Pearl Street.

Authorities believe the fire inside the vehicle was intentionally set and most likely happened the night before. The fire had self-extinguished and the vehicle suffered minor damage.

Carpenter was not home at the time of the incident.

The fire is being investigated as arson and authorities have offered a $5,000 reward for information in the case.

The fire is being jointly investigated by the Brockton Fire and Police Departments as well as Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
