Brockton Public Schools will send students, staff, and community members to Beacon Hill on Thursday to support a Senate bill that seeks more funding for the district.
Leaders say the representatives from the school district will sit in on a discussion to support a vote over Senate Bill 2325.
The bill called "An Act Modernizing the Foundation Budget for the 21st Century" would establish a commission on regional school district foundation budgets. It addresses special education funding, transportation costs, and charter school funding.
The move comes as Superintendent Kathleen Smith says the district has made drastic changes to close a $16 million budget gap over the year which includes hundreds of job cuts — including teachers.
In addition, Brockton School Committee Vice Chairman Thomas Minichiello told The Enterprise the district is facing up to a $9 million budget deficit heading into the next fiscal year.
Buses plan to leave from Brockton High School at 10:30 a.m. to travel to the state house.
