Suspect in Custody After Shooting at Cape Cod Liquor Store, Motorcyclist Escapes Pursuit During Investigation

Police have clarified that "there is no confirmed connection" between the motorcyclist and the shooting

A person was shot at a liquor store on Cape Cod Friday afternoon, and police took the suspected shooter into custody about two hours later, authorities said.

While Massachusetts State Police initially said a potential suspect on a motorcycle evaded pursuing cruisers on nearby highways, Dennis police later clarified that "there is no confirmed connection" between the motorcyclist, who was on a dirt bike, and the shooting.

The shooting took place at Finley's Liquors in West Dennis, according to a release from Massachusetts State Police. The victim was alive several hours after the 3:10 p.m. shooting.

Dennis police said the victim was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The suspect was arrested by Dennis detectives just after 5 p.m., according to Dennis police. They didn't immediately release more information about the suspected gunman or what led to the shooting.

As for the motorcyclist, Dennis police began chasing a "potential suspect," who was riding a motorcycle, and a state police cruiser joined in on Route 6, according to the release from state police.

The motorcyclist made a U-turn, but lost the chasing cruisers at exit 9 for Route 134 southbound, police said.

"Although there is no confirmed connection between the subject operating the dirt bike and the shooting, the Dennis Police Department is seeking to identify the operator and question him as he would be subject to serious motor vehicle charges," Dennis police said in their statement.
