Police: Drunk Driver Causes Car Crash, Fiery Explosion

21-year-old Thomas Kendall, of Harwich, told police he had been drinking tequila prior to the crash

A Cape Cod man is facing charges after the car he was driving crashed into a tree, causing a fiery explosion.

Police in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, say the driver, 21-year-old Thomas Kendall, of Harwich, was intoxicated when he crashed his car off Winslow Gray Road around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Authorities reportedly found Kendall standing outside of his car on his phone. According to police, he had injuries on his face and was bleeding from his nose and eye.

The car reportedly burst into flames as Kendall was trying to gather his belongings from inside of it.

According to police, just before the front of the car exploded, the responding officer grabbed Kendall by the arm and helped him to a safe distance from the car.

Kendall reportedly told police he had been drinking tequila at a bar in Hyannis. He was taken to a nearby hospital and faces multiple charges including drunken driving.
