Car Hits Ambulance in Newton; Jaws of Life Used to Extract Driver

A car struck an ambulance in Newton overnight Friday night, and the Jaws of Life were used to extract the driver.

According to the Newton Fire Department, overnight crews responded to Cabot and Centre streets for a motor vehicle accident. Newton's Medic 1 was returning from a call when it was struck by a Mazda, officials said.

The Jaws of Life were used to get the trapped driver out of the Mazda.

Everyone involved in the crash sustained only minor injuries, officials said.

Newton fire says this is the second time one of its emergency vehicles has been hit. Its deputy chief's vehicle was struck in November. Everyone involved in that crash also sustained minor injuries.
