Cat Shot in Leg, Bristol Police Look for Suspect

A cat is bouncing back after someone shot him in the leg in Bristol.

An x-ray showed that Buddy's leg had been broken after a bullet snapped the bone and went through the other side.

“Quite shocking, especially it was very close to home,” said Lisa Karwowski of Fur-Gotten Tails Animal Rescue.

Buddy is on cage rest for the next week after he underwent surgery on Tuesday.

Now, shaved and bandaged after surgery, Buddy is slowly springing back to life at his foster home.

“This morning he woke up at the vet and our vet was completely amazed. He was up walking around, purring,” said Karwowski.

The Fur-Gotten Tails Animal Rescue said Buddy was found late last week in the area of Topview Terrace in Bristol.

His owner had let him out and he came back limping.

They worried he had a broken leg but were not sure why.

“He went in for surgery when they found out it was not a car or wildlife, but a bullet wound,” said Karwowski.

At one point, it was feared the leg would need to be amputated.

While, surgery was a success, it’s still a long road to recovery.

“We’re hoping that his leg will be saved and he’ll be as good as new in a few weeks,” said Karwowski.

Eventually it’s hoped he will be available for adoption.

His medical bills are estimated to be around $1,200.

Fur-Gotten Tails Animal Rescue said you can donate by calling the vet at 203-727-8600, mail a donation to P.O. Box 778, Plainville, CT 06062, or click here.
