Firefighter Arrested on Armed Robbery, Drug Charges

A Massachusetts firefighter has been charged in connection with multiple armed robberies.

Thirty-six-year-old Erik Henry of Chicopee was arrested by Chicopee police on Tuesday night and charged with five counts of armed and masked robbery, along with heroin and cocaine possession.

Henry is accused of a string of robberies dating back to Oct. 21, when he allegedly robbed a Shell gas station. His last alleged armed robbery took place at a TD Bank on Nov. 26.

He's also under investigation by police in Springfield and Holyoke for similar armed robberies in their jurisdictions.

Police say when detectives went to the Chicopee Fire Department Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. to speak with him, an investigator noticed a bundle of heroin on the floor behind his chair. When Henry and the detectives were heading back to the department for an interview, Henry allegedly told the detectives he had a hypodermic needle on him, and a further search resulted in police finding heroin and cocaine.

Henry was arraigned in court Wednesday morning. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
