Bundle Up! Cold Returns This Weekend

Highs Saturday will only be in the 20s in Northern New England and 30s in Southern New England

Another blast of early season cold sits over New England today. Despite sunshine, highs will only be in the 20s in Northern New England and 30s in Southern New England, where it will also be windy.

It’s cold again tonight with single digits and teens in Northern New England and 20s farther south, where winds stay busy.

Clouds gradually increase on Sunday, especially in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island as a coastal storm nears. Sun will stay out most of the day across ski country. Expect highs in the 30s to near 40.

That coastal storm passes offshore on Monday, but does get close enough to bring some coastal rain showers. Just away from the coast, through parts of Northern and Western New England, as well as Central Massachusetts, there will be a few icy areas that develop as cold air hangs tough. Expect highs in the 30s there, and 40s closer to the water.

In Eastern Massachusetts winds will gust 40-50 MPH, with gusts 20-40 MPH elsewhere.

Those strong coastal winds on Monday will result in some minor coastal flooding during the mid-afternoon, particularly in Eastern Massachusetts.

That storm pulls away on Tuesday, while we wait for another to pass offshore on Wednesday. In between skies will be mostly cloudy with highs in the 40s and just a few spot rain or snow showers.

Even though that next storm passes offshore Wednesday, it goes far enough out to mostly miss again. Like Tuesday, most spots will just be mostly cloudy with a few spot rain or snow showers with highs in the 30s and 40s.

Temperatures remain close to, if not below, average into next weekend.
