A sex offender already in a New Hampshire jail is facing a slew of charges after allegedly beating a man with a hammer in "a series of assaults" and tying him up during in July.
Jerry Roberts, 35, of Concord, was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, criminal liability for conduct of another and resisting arrest for the incident on July 15, according to a Concord police statement released Wednesday.
Roberts was served with an arrest warrant at the New Hampshire State Prison, where he is currently serving time for failing to register as a sex offender, police said.
Officers were called to an apartment complex on Fisherville Road in July, where a man had jumped out of a bedroom window after being restrained and assaulted by Roberts, police said. The victim was able to get help from bystanders.
When police went inside the apartment, they found Roberts and a girl still inside.
Roberts tried to get away but police took him into custody.
The girl was taken into protective custody, according to police.

After an investigation that included interviews, search warrants and collected evidence, police said Roberts and the juvenile entered the victim's apartment under "false pretenses."
Once inside the apartment, "Roberts, armed with a hammer, began a series of assaults on the victim," police said in a statement. "The victim was restrained and bound for a period of time before he was able to escape by jumping out of a bedroom window."
Roberts was set to be arraigned Thursday in Merrimack County Superior Court; he refused bail, according to police. It's unclear if he has an attorney or when his next court date is.
