Couple Arrested in Connection With Fatal Brockton Shooting

Massachusetts State Police have arrested two people in connection with shooting Saturday night in Brockton that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Renardo Williams, 24, of Brockton, and Chanel Martins, 29, of Taunton, were arrested Wednesday night after state police patrolling along Route 84 in Sturbridge spotted and stopped their vehicle, according to the Plymouth District Attorney's Office.

A warrant had been issued for their arrest earlier in the day in connection with the shooting that left 26-year-old Bethgy Cator of Avon dead and another man injured.

Brockton police said they received a call shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday about multiple shots fired in the area of 139 Pleasant St. When they arrived, they found two men in a parked vehicle who had suffered gunshot wounds.

Both men were taken to area hospitals, where Cator later died. The identity of the second victim has not been released.

Williams will be charged with murder and assault with intent to murder, and Martins will be charged with accessory after the fact.

Both are expected to be arraigned in Brockton District Court later Thursday.

It was not immediately clear if they have attorneys.
