Man Rescued by Ladder During Raging Taunton, Mass. Fire

One firefighter was treated for a heat-related issue during the blaze

Crews remain at the scene of a destructive structure fire in Taunton, Massachusetts, where a firefighter was injured and one man was rescued by ladder.

Firefighters were battling hot spots Wednesday morning after getting the three-alarm fire under control. The blaze was reported sometime before 8:20 p.m. Tuesday at a multi-family home on Harrison Street.

Flames tore through the 2.5-story wood-frame home that housed six units. The blaze caused the roof to collapse, according to firefighters.

Authorities were able to rescue a man from a second-floor balcony by using a ladder. He was alert and conscious at the time of his rescue and did not require medical attention. One firefighter was treated at the scene for a heat-related issue.

About 35 firefighters, eight engines and two ladder trucks were used to fight the blaze. Fire departments from Dighton, Raynham, Rehoboth and Norton all assisted in the effort.

All residents of the home were believed to have escaped the fire safely. The Red Cross will be assisting those who have been displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
