DA: 8 Indicted in Connection With Body Found Burning in Hatfield

Authorities say eight people have been indicted in connection with the shooting death of a man whose burning body was found in a western Massachusetts field in March.

Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan announced the indictments Tuesday.

The body of 44-year-old Daniel Cruz was found in Hatfield on March 10.

Sullivan says the ensuing investigation found that Cruz was shot three times during an argument at a Northampton apartment complex by 22-year-old Nerkin Omar Morales.

Prosecutors say Morales and another man enlisted six others in an elaborate plot to conceal the shooting by cleaning up blood, hiding the gun, disposing of the victim's clothing, and then waiting until dark to take Cruz's body to Hatfield.

Morales is in custody and it was unclear if he had a lawyer.
