David Ortiz Makes Long-Term Deal With Red Sox

Ten-time All-Star and three-time World Series Champion David Ortiz, has inked a long-term deal with the team where he spent the last 14 seasons of his career.

According to the Red Sox and Fenway Sports Management, Ortiz will be acting as a mentor for current players and participating in recruitment efforts. He will also make special appearances for the club and work in a business development capacity for Fenway Sports Management and its partners.

"For over a decade and a half, we have gotten to know what kind of man David is both on and off the field," said Red Sox principal owner John Henry. "His skill and success on the diamond are rivaled only by his spirit, compassion, and big heart. I cannot think of a better representative for our organization."

Ortiz announced his retirement from the Sox on Nov. 18, 2015 and played his final game on Oct. 10, 2016 in Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians.

Ortiz said he is happy to help the organization where he achieved most of his success.

"Whether that’s offering advice to a young player, helping convince a free agent that there’s no better city to play in than Boston, or representing the club in the community and with its partners, it’s great to be part of the Red Sox organization. It feels like I never left," Ortiz said.
