Death of 5-Month-Old Boy at Waltham Daycare Under Investigation: DA

No foul play is suspected

Massachusetts authorities are investigating the death of a 5-month-old boy at a Waltham daycare.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office said the boy was found unresponsive Tuesday at the licensed daycare on Falmouth Road.

Staff at the facility immediately administered CPR and the infant was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Brandon Heebert, who couldn't get home due to the police and ambulance activity on the street, was surprised to hear about the death.

"I actually have a son who's about to turn 5 months. To hear that is pretty scary," said Heebert.

He said the daycare has been open several years and is well-received.

"They seem really well-liked and I've never heard of any issues as long as they've been operating out of there," said Heebert.

Another neighbor, Bruno Caira, said his brother died at just 6 months old so he can understand how the family of the little boy at the daycare must feel.

"I'm aware of what it means. You always think about things like that. What it would have been if he had lived," said Caira.

No foul play is suspected but the incident is being investigated by Waltham Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
