Downtown Lowell, Massachusetts Shooting Suspect Arrested, Due in Court

The suspect accused of shooting a 24-year-old Haverhill man in Lowell, Massachusetts was arrested and is expected to face a judge on Wednesday.

Haverhill resident Dwayne Johnson, 26, was arrested without incident at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday at a Lawrence residence, according to the Lowell Police Department. He was considered "armed and dangerous" when officials began their search for the suspect on Sunday.

Officials said the unidentified victim was with friends at the Village Smokehouse on Sunday when he encountered Johnson as he was leaving to go home.

Lowell police said the victim and Johnson, who authorities say have a history, were going to have some sort of altercation when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun.

The victim suffered a single shot to the abdomen and was rushed to a Boston hospital in serious condition. His current condition is not clear.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Lowell District Court. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
