Driver Killed, 6 Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-495 in Norton

An elderly man was killed and six others were injured Wednesday night in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 495 in Norton, Massachusetts, according to state police.

Firefighters responded to the crash at 11:30 p.m. near exit 9 where an 84-year-old man's Toyota was engulfed in flames and two other vehicles were damaged.

Authorities said the driver of the Toyota, from Foxborough, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Two other drivers and four passengers in the other two vehicles were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of the Toyota was driving the wrong way on I-495 northbound when he collided with the two vehicles.

The highway was shut down while authorities cleared the scene. It has since been reopened.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
