Father of Bella Bond Denies Shoplifting Charge

Among the items Amoroso attempted to steal according to the report was a Luxe Sherpa Chocolate Velvet Throw, two pairs of fingerless gloves, outdoor safety glasses, and a $329 fuel band saw tool

The father of the toddler known for months as "Baby Doe" after her remains washed up on a Boston Harbor beach has been freed on $200 bail after pleading not guilty to shoplifting charges.

Joseph Amoroso refused comment outside court Wednesday following his arraignment on a larceny charge for allegedly trying to steal about $600 worth of items Tuesday from a Boston Home Depot, including a $329 band saw.

Amoroso is the father of 2-year-old Bella Bond, who was buried last week. Her remains were found in June. Amoroso never met his daughter.

According to a police report, Amoroso told the arresting officer: "Do you know who I am? ... Now you can tell everyone you arrested baby Bella's father."

Bella's mother, Rachelle Bond, and her boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, have been arrested in connection with the child's death. McCarthy is charged with murder and Bond is charged with being an accessory after the fact.
