36 Displaced, 1 Firefighter Injured in Blaze in Lowell

One firefighter was injured and more than 30 residents were displaced after a three-alarm fire in Lowell, Massachusetts on Saturday.

A call came in at 7:20 a.m. for a blaze at 12 Cross St. in Lowell, a six-unit building where smoke was pouring out of the second and third floors.

All 36 residents were able to leave the building on their own and none were reported injured. The Red Cross says it arrived to help those displaced by the fire.

The injury sustained by the firefighter is described as minor.

The fire has since been extinguished and the building was knocked down. Lowell Fire Deputy Chief Bob Destrempe said firefighters did a great job, noting that "at the beginning, it was pretty tough."

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
