A report of a strong gas odor brought officials back to a part of Lawrence, Massachusetts that was most impacted by the explosions and fires Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a gas leak in the basement of a building on South Broadway Street near Shattuck Street.

The street was shut down as firefighters and gas workers opened manholes, tested gas levels and tried to gain access to businesses on the city's south side.

The situation appeared to be contained by 11:15 a.m.

One person was killed and 25 others injured when a series of gas explosions caused 60 to 80 fires in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover on Thursday.

Crews continue to work to restore gas service and electricity to parts of all three communities, though officials have said the restoration process could last for weeks.
