Jurors in the Bella Bond murder trial finished their first full day of deliberations without reaching a verdict on Wednesday.
Trial Underway for Man Accused of Killing Bella Bond
Michael McCarthy is accused of killing the daughter of his ex-girlfriend Rachelle Bond in 2015.
The jury deliberated for about two hours on Tuesday without reaching a verdict before being dismissed for the day. They reconvened around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday but were excused for the day at 4 p.m. without reaching a verdict.
Deliberations are expected to continue on Thursday morning. Jurors could convict McCarthy of first or second degree murder, or a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.
McCarthy's lawyer told jurors during closing arguments Tuesday that the girl's mother is the real killer and created a "web of lies" to blame him.
A prosecutor conceded Rachelle Bond behaved badly, but said there's no evidence she killed her daughter.
