Concord Native, Boyfriend Killed by Flash Flood in Puerto Rico: Report

A Concord, Massachusetts native and her boyfriend were reportedly killed by a flash flood earlier this month while vacationing in Puerto Rico, the Boston Globe reports.

Maya Robinson and her boyfriend, Mark Keffer, both 22, were killed Oct. 11 when they were caught in the flood during a guided rainforest tour, Robinson's mother told the paper.

Keffer's obituary says the incident occurred at the Espíritu Santo river in the El Yunque National Forest.

“They went on a quick weekend trip to celebrate being together for four years,” Robinson’s mother, Duana Hamilton, told the paper.

Hamilton said she “just collapsed” when she learned about the incident.

“I feel that we lost an angel,” said Hamilton, who lives in Concord.

Robinson was living in New York and working in finance after graduating from Georgetown University in May, according the obituary. Hamilton told the paper the couple met at Georgetown. Keffer was a Houston native.

Robinson's life will also be honored at a service in New Hampshire at Phillips Exeter Academy — where she went to school — on November 9, the paper said.
