Former Boston Fire Lieutenant Pleads Not Guilty to Child Rape Charges

A former Boston fire lieutenant has pleaded not guilty to multiple child rape charges.

The Cape Cod Times reports that 58-year-old Edward Kulik Jr., entered his plea Monday after his case was moved to Barnstable Superior Court.

The alleged assaults happened in 2010 and 2012. Police reports in connection to the case are sealed.

Kulik appeared in court using a walker and wearing a medical bag. His attorney says his client has suffered "significant health problems" since his indictment in May 2017.

Attorney John Diamond says Kulik was hospitalized and in a coma. He has not specified the medical condition.

Kulik joined the Boston Fire Department in 1986. His retirement went into effect in March 2017.
