A current firefighter is accused of raping a child when he worked as a Massachusetts high school hockey coach

Andrew LeColst, 39, of Middleton, was indicted by an Essex County grand jury on one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and three counts of rape on a child on Wednesday.

The alleged incidents occurred between 2003 and 2005, when the victim was between the ages of 13 and 15, according to the Essex district attorney's office. At the time, LeColst was an assistant coach at Masconomet Regional High School in Boxford.

LeColst currently works as a firefighter in Middleton. Middleton town records indicate he was hired in July 2008.

No one at Middleton Fire Department, where LeColst works as a firefighter and EMT, would comment on his arrest.

Middleton's town administrator, Andrew Sheehan, said LeColst has been placed on paid leave.

"Certainly, it's something that we never like to see happen with any employee or any resident," Sheehan said. "We'll do some investigation on our own. Really, this will be a district attorney investigation. We'll allow that process to play out."

LeColst worked at Masconomet Regional School District at various times from January 2002 through June 2005 in multiple capacities, including as a junior varsity hockey coach, a paraprofessional/teaching assistant and a part-time physical education/health teacher and interim varsity hockey coach.

It's unclear whether he resigned or was terminated.

He'll be arraigned on Monday in Salem Superior Court. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
